Run by Mr Dean and Ms Maya Jankelowitz, and named after Mr Jankelowitz’s South African grandparents, this neighbourhood bistro is a family affair through and through. The food is American-Mediterranean or, as New York magazine has more accurately described it, “South African Israeli Jewish Grandmother Cuisine” and so pretty it’s practically designed for Instagram. This was the original outpost, but if you find yourself round the corner in the West Village, there’s another spot on Carmine Street.
