Amsterdam could be all about croquettes and cheese or this. It’s a fresh take on Japanese fusion with excellent sushi and lots of dishes that are perfect for sharing. Great for a group – the more the merrier. They also have a host of exotic cocktails. Try something you’d ordinarily skip on a menu (it’s a rule of the house).
Izakaya
Japanese meets South American – not necessarily two cuisines one would automatically think of putting together. But then, in many ways Amsterdam is the city of experimentation, and happily, in this case the juxtaposition makes for an exciting dining experience. In fact, it’s proved so successful, Izakaya now has outposts in Hamburg, Ibiza, Munich and Milan. For a full feast for the senses, mix and match ‘Asian tapas’-style plates of padron peppers, yuzo miso, jalapeno octopus, seabream ceviche and soft shell crab harumaki, followed by charcoal-grilled lobster wasabi with steamed rice. And don’t miss the gin and basil cocktail.
