The secret agents are back with a brand-new gadget, courtesy of the Swiss watchmaker – and exclusive to us.

It’s the sequel we’ve all been waiting for. This September, the Kingsmen return to the big screen with a new mission and, courtesy of MR PORTER, a brand-new wardrobe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the much-anticipated follow-up to 2014’s explosive spy caper Kingsman: The Secret Service, the suave, suited-and-booted secret agents leave the sanctuary of their London headquarters and travel to Kentucky to join forces with their American counterparts, the Statesmen.

Building on the success of the first film, MR PORTER has once again partnered with director Mr Matthew Vaughn and costume designer Ms Arianne Phillips to devise a custom wardrobe that will also be available to buy under the Kingsman brand. Just like the sequel, expect this new collection to be bigger, louder and even more stylish than the last.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is a transatlantic affair, meaning more than just Savile Row-style tailoring. Joining the traditional Kingsman wardrobe of double-breasted suits, bench-made Oxfords and chestnut-handled umbrellas, there will be the Americana-inspired outfits favoured by the Statesmen. Think rough-and-ready cattle-driver to Kingsman’s dapper gentleman spy in denim jackets, cowboy boots and Stetson hats. That’s not all, though.

Every gentleman spy worth his salt needs a watch. But we’re not talking any old watch. No, the instrument strapped to his wrist has to be capable of doing far more than telling the time. Consider the many and varied timepieces worn over the years by the most famous fictional spy of all, a British secret agent working for Her Majesty’s Secret Service and going by the name of Bond… James Bond. Secondary horological features – let’s call them complications – have included an electromagnet (Live And Let Die, 1973), a laser-cutting tool (Never Say Never Again, 1983) and a grappling hook (The World Is Not Enough, 1999).

Sadly, if a little predictably, none of these features made it to the consumer market. Others, however, such as the two-way radio and digital messaging device built into the watch worn by Sir Roger Moore’s Bond in For Your Eyes Only (1981), now seem less like far-fetched gadgetry and more like something you’d expect to find on a modern-day smartwatch. How apt, then, that the latest instalment of Kingsman, a franchise that tips its bowler hat on more than one occasion to the Bond universe, should feature as its very own gadget watch TAG Heuer’s luxury smartwatch, the Connected Modular 45.

Launching this week on MR PORTER as a month-long global exclusive, the Kingsman Special Edition of TAG Heuer’s game-changing smartwatch comes fitted with rose-gold lugs and an elegant brown leather strap, with a second strap in tan alcantara included in the box.

The Kingsman logo is engraved onto the case, and two digital watchfaces featuring the logo at nine o’clock and three o’clock also come pre-loaded onto the watch, which is powered by Android Wear 2.0, Google’s latest smartwatch operating system.

Key features include GPS functionality, an NFC payment sensor, a pin-sharp AMOLED screen and a microphone with which wearers can activate Google Assistant. It’s all that you’d expect of a modern smartwatch, in other words, but in a physical case that looks and feels like a luxury Swiss watch. Not included are the many high-tech spy features that appear in the movie version, which is worn by Mr Taron Egerton’s character, Eggsy. But then, who wants a Taser fitted in their smartwatch anyway?

The Kingsman Special Edition TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is available now as the first release of this new chapter in the Kingsman brand. Look out for more from the Kingsmen – and the Statesmen – when the movie is released worldwide this September.
