Four new pieces to shake up the shade’s sensible connotations.
Beige is accepted as a synonym for dull, run-of-the-mill or safe. A “beige” person – at least in Urban Dictionary terms – probably does not own anything akin to streetwear, and probably wouldn’t know what Vetements was if it ran them over in a DHL van. But we’re here to say that that’s OK. You do you, beige – stick to the pathways of life and play within the lines. We’re not here to judge. What we are here to do, however, is point you in the direction of some shiny new things that have landed on MR PORTER today, and a common theme among our upload this week is the colour beige. But not as you know it…
In sartorial terms, beige has generally been confined to chinos and camel coats – classic, versatile staple pieces in a men’s wardrobe. Something that’ll go with everything. Today, however, we introduce beige 2.0. This is beige out on the town, beige freeing itself from the shackles of sensibility. Check out the below sneakers, for example. These futuristic Fendi kicks feature multiple variants of the tone in mesh, leather and PVC atop a substantial stacked sole and are just the thing to take your casual wardrobe to the next level. Sacai’s suede moccasins are similarly standout, set on four separate soles to give you little lift. If you’re feeling a little more restrained, this checked shirt by A.P.C. (which also deploys the other unlikely colour of the season: brown) is the perfect piece for a Sunday stroll. Or if you’re somewhere in between, Rag & Bone’s chore jacket will serve you well – from the front it’s strictly traditional business, but the bright-orange back panel will add a bit of flair to your look. Not so boring after all.
Beige against the machine
