THE JOURNAL

There may be lots of things you want to shed come winter’s end. Those few extra pounds gained in the mid-season slump. The feeling that endless grey days are never going to lift. Then, there are the layers we cosy up in from late autumn to spring. The heavyweight fabrics, the cosy constructions, the many, many tiers. Don’t get us wrong, we love this stuff. Big coats. Thick corduroy. Lots and lots of knits. But there comes a time, usually around about now, when we just want to throw off some layers. It all starts to feel, like winter itself, a little heavy. We want style that feels a little lighter – and that lightens our mood a little, too.
This, obviously, is where spring/summer collections come in – those clever fashion people! It’s the time for a less-is-more style mantra: lighter fabrics, looser constructions, less rules around colour and silhouettes.

These are the general rules of thumb. And then there are the rules by which Versace, the inimitable Italian powerhouse, plays by, and which are unmistakably its own. So, yes, this spring, you can expect all the above in terms of Versace’s offering, with shirts, shorts, jackets and denim that make ideal additions to your new-season wardrobe. But this being Versace, there’s always a little more to offer. A certain panache, a certain feel-good spirit that seems like the perfect match for the warmer days.
Take just some of the newest pieces from its SS25 collection. The classic camp-collar shirt ticks all the prerequisites of spring/summer style, and then some. It’s boxy in construction, with appealingly loose short sleeves, in suitably lightweight material. Add a pair of the wide-leg fit shorts with a comfy elasticated waist and you’re signalling joie de vivre already.
That’s the practical stuff. And, at Versace, that’s a given. Note the Italian heavyweight’s standing for delivering craftsmanship and that all important style know-how. Then you add what can only be described as a little – or more accurately, a lot – of Versace.

It’s in the fabric choice, such as a silk-twill, that give shirts and shorts a casual opulence. Then there is that unmistakably Versace print, a floral powder blue on bold brown, here with the brand’s iconic gold baroque framing.
If joy is a thread that runs through the Versace SS25 collection, it does so in ways that also feel easy to wear. This is a brand that is unabashedly bold, but understands that occasions demand things dialling up and down. With this approach, there’s freedom to play according to mood and an inherent adaptability to each piece.
Brand cornerstones such as signature print shirts can be paired with a deceptively simple Japanese denim for a more relaxed mood. The vivid patterns can be played with accordingly, contrasted nicely with (some still useful) layering, like a cropped tan leather jacket. And if it’s a little spring you need in your step, try Versace’s heeled rider boots in suede. Change is in the air, after all, and Versace has style designed to give you a little lift this season.
