THE JOURNAL

Highlights from the French brand’s new collection, now available on MR PORTER.
Moncler is one of those brands that a person can easily become a little obsessed with. To the point that anyone who has tried on one if its trademark down-stuffed jackets might feel a bit sad when, upon entering their definitively not-Alpine office on a Monday morning, they have to take it off. Thank goodness, then, for the existence of Moncler Gamme Bleu, the brand’s secondary sartorial line in which fêted New York designer Mr Thom Browne turns his stylish eye to some of the house’s trademarks, creating a range of cosy, yet sharply stylish pieces that will keep you warm and work perfectly for day-to-day (and even smart-casual) use. Even better, the collection has just landed on MR PORTER. Here are a few of the highlights, and how to wear them.
THE VARSITY BOMBER
How to look youthful, clean-cut and all-American, while still packing a fair amount of insulation? Look no further than Moncler Gamme Bleu’s ribbed-trim bomber jacket, a garment that combines a nostalgic sporty design (replete with the brand’s trademark red, blue and white stripes) with a very up-to-date down filling. Wear it with the coordinating sweater and feel well and truly a part of the team.
THE DOWN BLAZER
The down blazer may seem, on first sight, a rather challenging style proposition but, as demonstrated by none other than Mr Pierre Casiraghi – who wore his without the slightest shrug of discomfort last December – it’s a rather natural addition to your tailored outfit when temperatures start to plummet. The schoolboy-ish stripes of this particular example belie its formidable warmth. Wear it with a pair of navy chinos and consider your mid-winter smart-casual look sorted.
THE PARKA
This zip-up parka is an altogether more serious piece of kit, which should be thrown on over your casual or weekend outfit when you’re planning to spend a few hours (or more) outdoors. Thanks to the monochrome palette and sleek design, though, this will look as at home on the city streets as it will in some far-flung field. Play up its athletic, go-faster shoulder stripe by pairing it with the matching scarf.
