How Noon Goons took its style cues for its new collection from a battered VW Beetle.
LA brand Noon Goons seems to be more of an extension of founder Mr Kurt Narmore’s wardrobe than a commercial label in the traditional sense. You can learn exactly why this is the case in our profile on the surf and skate enthusiast, here. Or, if you’re feeling lazy, you could simply swipe down his Instagram page – which gives an insight into the youthful, punk sensibility that informs his clothes. Talking of Noon Goons clothing, more of Mr Narmore’s designs landed on site, today. And, since we’re such a fan of them (and the man who makes them) we asked Mr Narmore himself to pick out some of his favourite pieces and tell us how he likes to wear them. Find out more, below.
The corduroy jacket

“This is one of my personal favorites,” says Mr Narmore. “You won’t find a cord jacket that feels like this. It can only be done in LA. Los Angeles is by far the premier place to manufacture clothing in the US. With an amazing reputation for the manufacturing of denim and jersey knit goods like T-shirts and sweatshirts, LA is continuously improving quality standards with more time-consuming operations and construction. The rust orange color is actually inspired by the rust of a VW Bug. Southern California has such a huge car culture and this jacket is a perfect cruising piece. Rich in colour, it will look great worn over a Noon Goons luciano shirt, with a simple pair of slacks. it’s a great piece to spice up your vibe.”
The camp-collar shirt

“There is a bit of process that goes into the manufacturing of this quite simple looking garment. Starting with the fabric that is milled in Missouri, the sanded 100 per cent cotton-twill shirting is then shipped to us here in Los Angeles and taken to our roll print facility for custom printed stripes. From there it goes to a hot wash for shrinkage before heading to the cutting facility in Compton. After that it’s sewn up in Downtown LA, but before adding the buttons and finishing we do a final enzyme wash on the garment to give it a loose worn feeling vibe. Finally, the garment is given buttons, final trim and a quality control check. The colours of the shirt are a conversation point. It looks great layered with an army/navy surplus cream color thermal underneath paired with the black club pants. For a more elegant look, throw on a lightweight overcoat.”
The velour shirt

“As you may know, we take great pride in our manufacturing process. Everything is made in Los Angeles where all our sewing factories, dye houses, print facilities, and fabric vendors are within 20 minutes reach. The sheen of the stretch velour on this particular shirt gives it a certain elegance and makes this a versatile piece perfect for a date (or a skate). The slightly cropped hem gives it an element of sexiness, I think. If you’re taking this thing on a date I would wear it with a nice pair of slacks or if you’re going for a skate, wear it with the Noon Goons club pants. But then – I would say that!”
