Mr Takahiro Miyashita is somewhat of a fashion legend. He is known for designing clothes, under his brand TAKAHIROMIYASHITA The Soloist., that are threaded through with cultural references – see the jacket below that is crafted from vintage American flags – and hit the mark between being edgy and considered (a grungy shirt crafted from multiple plaids, for instance, or a twill Dickies jacket plastered with images of Mr Kurt Cobain in action on stage). From the 1990s-style leopard and zebra prints on the clothes to the grunge imagery that appears on them, it’s obvious that Mr Miyashita’s thing is music.

Because what he listens to is such a big part of the designer’s inspiration (and is perhaps the best way to understand the brand), we asked Mr Miyashita to put together a playlist for us to celebrate the capsule collection that has been released exclusively on MR PORTER. Packed full of famously jovial ditties such as Ms Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” and Ms Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You”, as well as songs from Msses Billie Eilish and Laura Marling, the playlist is an emotional journey that gives us a rare insight into Mr Miyashita’s musical inspiration.
