THE JOURNAL
A new season presents us with the opportunity to give our wardrobes a much-needed refresh – with a “buy better” approach, of course – and winter may just be the one that requires the most sartorial preparation. Making sure you are prepped and ready to tackle chillier weather head-on is no easy task. It requires smart style choices and a certain prowess in layering and accessorising your outfits.
At MR PORTER, we’re always on hand to assist you with whatever sartorial dilemma you may find yourself in. Luckily, we’re a stylish bunch ourselves, so to help you get your winter wardrobe just right, we’ve asked our Style Director, Mr Olie Arnold, to hand-pick two Mr P. looks (a casual ensemble and a smarter option) that’ll get him, and you, through the coming months.
01.
The casual look
The striped sweater
“Another piece from the past brought up to modern-day standards. Inspired by traditional 1950s football tops that later became everyday staples in the 1990s, particularly in the indie scene, this one has been elevated even further thanks to the tactile cotton and Lyocell fabric.”
The cashmere sweatpants
“Cashmere sweatpants are one of life’s luxuries. Normally they are never to be seen outside, but these ones are made for a weightier handle, which gives them way more versatility.”
02.
The smarter outfit
The blouson jacket
“A nod to 1970s styles, this bomber is made from substantial virgin wool and has a detachable shearling collar, which means it’ll keep you extra warm when temperatures drop.”
The Chelsea boots
“My footwear of choice this winter. The high walls and almond-shaped toes create the right balance of attitude and style, while the showerproof suede means they can be worn in any kind of weather.”
The ribbed beanie
“A good beanie needs to be made of great wool; it needs to be able to keep its shape and to be crafted in an interesting finish and colour. It can be hard to find one, but luckily for you, you just have.”
