Seven Spring Jackets To Help You Ace The Seasonal Transition

That’s right, people. It’s finally lightweight jacket time. Look, we love a beautiful overcoat or cosy ankle-length down jacket as much as the next person, but there comes a point in the year when it’s time to shed the shackles – and grab a shacket. No more coats trailing on the restaurant floor or stuffed into the corners of bar banquettes. No more sweltering rides on the Tube or awkward rifling of shop rails with a rug under your arm. What we need is a perfectly crafted spring jacket, light enough not to smother us when the sun comes out but warm enough for cold evenings and, crucially, suitable for layering. Being beautifully made wouldn’t go amiss, either. Here are our seven favourites to get you started.

01. The Fear of God leather jacket

With this boxy leather jacket, Fear of God has taken a classic biker style and streamlined it to create an outerwear option that is all about form. The minimal detailing and sleek full-grain black leather mean the padded shoulders and structured fit are the full focus – and that it can be easily dressed up for smart occasions, too.

02. The TOM FORD denim jacket

If you’ve been searching for the definitive denim jacket that is positively dripping with timeless masculine charm, then here it is – by no less than TOM FORD. Slim-fitting and exhibiting all the quintessential hallmarks of the traditional Western style (and artfully faded for a touch of vintage allure). It isn’t named “Iconic” for no reason.

03. The VETEMENTS shearling jacket

Whether it’s with super wide-leg jeans, platform sneakers or a cropped jacket like this one, VETEMENTS wants you to play with proportions. The shortened hem is exaggerated thanks to the extra-thick shearling, wide collar and lengthened sleeves. Wear with a fitted tee or layer over a hoodie when the weather takes a turn.

04. The Moncler down jacket

It might be coming up to spring, but that doesn’t mean you won’t sometimes need a warm jacket (especially if you live in the UK like the MR PORTER editors). Make a statement with this super-slick waist-length down puffer jacket, part of Moncler Genius’ collaboration with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment company.

05. The ZEGNA hooded shearling jacket

Halfway between a jacket and a hoodie, this comfortable and casual offering from ZEGNA is taken up a notch through the careful selection of quality materials. The cream shearling is complemented with tonal leather, as well as pocket and debossed line details. Equally as good over a sweater as under an oversized outer layer.

06. The Loro Piana padded blouson

Want something warm and weatherproof, but without the “outdoorsy” look? True to form, Loro Piana provides practicality and style in typically classy fashion. The silhouette of the Maurin blouson is contemporary and classic at once – an item that will quickly find its way into your daily rotation and, we think, stay there for a long time.

07. The Givenchy bomber jacket

It wouldn’t be a spring jacket line-up without a bomber. So, how about two for one? This reversible design from Givenchy offers a low-key shell look on one side and a washed denim, logo-branded alternative on the other. Plenty of handy pockets for all your bits and ribbed cuffs and hems for insulation are further benefits.
