Brunello Cucinelli’s New Collection Is Getting Us Excited For Spring (And Summer)
We’re here to promote progress and change. Why, just last month, we ran through the steps you might choose to take in order to live this year to its fullest, whatever your predicament. And, while we may be using rather different tools, today we are doing the same thing, in a manner of speaking. Allow us to explain.
You see, spring is on the way. We don’t mean to get you too excited. Yes, we are still in one of those bleak in-between months that speaks neither of the joys and frivolity of the festive season, nor the sweet release of warmer temperatures. But that is not to say that the latter is not on its way, and with it green shoots (both literal and metaphorical), longer days and sunnier dispositions. And what better way to celebrate this fact than by poring over the latest collection from our friends at Brunello Cucinelli, which seems to have been designed with exactly that in mind.
If, rather than just having a practical interest in clothing, you take a keen interest in qualities such as provenance, material and craftsmanship, you will doubtless already have heard of the brand. Indeed, if you read MR PORTER’s The Journal (and the fact that you are currently passing your eyes over these words confirms that you definitely do), you will be well-acquainted. You will know that it counts the effortlessly stylish manager of Juventus FC, Mr Andrea Pirlo, as one of its many fans, and you may share his appreciation of Brunello Cucinelli’s traditions and history.
You will then also likely be well-versed in Mr Cucinelli’s humanistic approach to his business and the people who help make its fine clothing. You will be aware of the brand’s base in Solomeo, how every stitch is made in Italy, and mostly in and around this 14th-century Perugian hamlet, which Mr Cucinelli has, over the years, helped to restore. And furthermore, should you choose to invest in one of the pieces that we have lovingly styled in these pictures, your money will be going to one of fashion’s good guys. But what you may not know is that Brunello Cucinelli is helping to announce the arrival of spring today, and aiding us in our positive, forward-looking approach, with this vibrant new display.
By way of introducing us to this latest collection of clothing, the brand mentioned a period of reflection. During this moment, elements of the Brunello Cucinelli’s creativity and core values have been revisited, making their way into these clothes in the form of various flourishes, fabrics and styles. There is a nautical influence, yes, but the brand is keen to state that it is, like us, reaching forward with contemporary touches – reflected in the soft, light volume of the collection’s shirts, T-shirts and trousers.
The more eagle-eyed among you will note the refined use of fabrics such as Sea Island cotton and wool blending seamlessly with fabrics such as silk and linen. And note the cream blazer, pictured below: timeless, lightweight and sophisticated.
One glance at the details of this new collection, as well as the pieces we have selected on site, reveals that Brunello Cucinelli’s intention was to create a harmony between neutral, warm tones of beige, grey, blues (we particularly like the hoodie and sweatshirt combination we have styled together, above) and fresh summer hues of cobalt, aqua, citron and magenta. Forget getting excited for spring, summer is also, clearly, on the way. The inclusion of striped patterns in a variety of widths and proportions suggests a definite maritime theme, for sure, especially evident in the long-sleeved top paired here with a lightweight down jacket.
The best clothes invite us to look ahead, and this new collection from Brunello Cucinelli does just that. As we peruse these pictures, we can’t help but get excited about the coming months and to imagine the scenarios in which we might wear such exquisite clothes.
And those situations are numerous, because Brunello Cucinelli is above all a versatile brand – something we have done our best to illustrate with the four looks seen here. The first showcases a pair of relaxed trousers which might be categorised as sweats were they not so well fitted, sneakers and a down jacket, for something a little sportier (but not too active, of course). The second is laid-back, subtle and soft, something you can wear at home or walking your dog in the park (as long as you steer clear of muddy paw prints).
Then: we put something together that suggests a casual yet confident take on collegiate style. Finally, tasselled loafers, a blazer and chinos, for those smart – but never stuffy – occasions. These are themes that capture what Brunello Cucinelli is all about: traditional values expressed with modern flair and creativity. Now there’s something to look forward to.
