The Austin, Texas-born designer launched his eponymous brand in 2005 after making his name at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent; within just a few years, the words TOM FORD had become short-hand for a jet-setting life of luxury and glamour. But despite his international clientele, he never forgot where he came from. In fact, the influence of his homeland appears to have only strengthened with time. While his earlier collections were largely informed by the tailoring traditions of Savile Row or the opulence of European haute couture, his recent work has been rooted in the cultural and sartorial heritage of the US.
