It is happening again….
Twin Peaks has its own special place in the TV world firmament. Ever since Mr Angelo Badalamenti’s haunting score swelled into living rooms in 1990, it has affected a singular connection with viewers. It stuck in the mind, with its back-to-front dreams, its Log Lady, its preoccupation with cherry pies and damn fine cups of coffee. Now an official two-day festival is to bring it all back to life at the end of this month in London. Even some of the show’s stars have been drafted in, including, Mr Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs) and Ms Kimmy Robertson (Lucy Moran), as well as Mr John Pirrucello (Deputy Chad Broxford) and Chrysta Bell (FBI agent Tammy Preston) from last year’s Twin Peaks: The Return, for assorted immersive experiences.
It still captures the imagination today, 28 years after its first airing, because of its unique atmosphere. It’s a sci-fi, whodunit, teen drama, horror, all rolled into one. Director Mr David Lynch’s celluloid world was, and remains, a bounty. It is not just Twin Peaks festivals that are in vogue at the moment, however. With the 1990s revival continuing at a pace, so are the clothes. Read on to find five looks from the original series that are back with a vengeance.

Mr Kyle MacLachlan as Dale Cooper

The optimistic, over-caffeinated FBI agent might have turned up expecting to solve Laura Palmer’s murder – but he became a TV superstar. His look was a classic, featuring a buttoned up suit, white shirt, plain tie, and a wide-lapel trench tied haphazardly at the waist. If it looks shockingly modern, that’s because, well, it is, being the antecedent of Mr Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga. How long will it be before dictaphones come back in fashion, too?

Mr Gary Hershberger as Mike Nelson

Mike Nelson was a student at Twin Peaks High School and close friends with Bobby Briggs. He typefied jocky Americana: he was on both the football team and the wrestling team, and also dealt drugs to Bobby. His story then was as old as time and encompassed in two words: teenage rebel. As much as it is a trope of literature, it is also one front and centre in recent years. Get the look with a slim-fit logo embroidered number from Givenchy or else Golden Bear’s version. Forget Twin Peaks, this is a very Lower East Side look and we like it.

Mr James Marshall as James Hurley

Brooding James Hurley was the epitome of a starcrossed-loner and also Laura Palmer’s secret lover. He was sensitive, cool, a man dripping in pathos. And as befits anyone with those characteristics, he wore a shearling leather jacket and dark jeans, paired with a checked shirt and a simple white tee. Very much the coat of the season, it has been the mainstay of Prada and Fendi shows this season.

Mr Ray Wise as Leland Palmer

Although Leland Palmer ended up being possessed by the ghastly Bob, in his day-to-day dealings he was an attorney and dressed like your grandad. Or so it seemed back in 1990; today, that same outfit is at the cutting edge of cool. In fact we’d swear that coat was from Isabel Benenato. Just goes to show, you should never mock your elders when it comes to clothes. And never, ever throw anything away.

Mr Dana Ashbrook as Bobby Briggs

Bobby Briggs is the incarnation of the 1990s moral panic about tearaway teenagers. Sometimes-good, sometimes-bad, always good looking and a worry to his mum. He was a drug dealer and Laura Palmer’s unfaithful boyfriend, but he also helped stop Leo the trucker beating up his wife. But we’re more interested in his style – which is up-to-the-minute if this shot is anything to go by. The curtain haircut, belted trousers and high-necked T-shirt looks very much like the last Acne Studios campaign, and a version of his sweater is available on MR PORTER.
