Five Next-Level Sweatshirts For Spring

Words by Mr Tom M Ford

Roughly this time last year we were all chewing over the idea that sweats were starting to become the norm. Having spent so much time indoors, we had become overly exposed to such clothing and weren’t really prepared to take it off when we ventured outside for milk. Now, in spring 2022, sweatshirts and the like are, like jeans or polo shirts, mainstays in our wardrobe, beyond the conversation about when and where they are appropriate. No wonder, then, that designers have upped their game, pulling out all the stops to usher in a new raft of extra special sweatshirts for us to enjoy this spring. Here are five fresh examples available now on MR PORTER – and how to wear them. Where? That’s up to you.

01.

The classic Stone Island sweatshirt

Once at risk of being the official uniform of people flicking rude signs at football matches, Stone Island sweatshirts were, in recent years, donned by the likes of Drake, Dave and A$AP Nast to make them officially stylish. Make a good thing better with cargo trousers by EDWIN and a pair of Nike Air Max.

The loud KAPITAL jersey

Got something to say? A little bit shy? Say it loud with your sweatshirt – more specifically, KAPITAL’s maximalist Japanese-meets-American estimation of a sweatshirt.

The sophisticated TOM FORD sweatshirt

It is highly unlikely you’re about to do any pull-ups or eat cereal in this TOM FORD sweatshirt anytime soon. But that’s probably a good thing, given the rather unforgiving colour and superior construction. It’s knitted with cotton and has raglan sleeves for extra moveability.

The 11.11/eleven eleven hand-painted style

With an emphasis on responsible production techniques (and the rather striking bandhani finishing) – you won’t just look good in this 11.11/eleven eleven jumper; you will also feel good. A positive mood is probably important when fielding all the inevitable questions you will receive about what you’re wearing.

The Raf Simons distressed look

With the collegiate-meets-Smiley design and torn sleeves, you could be forgiven for thinking this sweatshirt is an inexpensive charity shop find. Use it as your companion on your next hangover if you wish, but Mr Raf Simons probably had other ideas… We suggest jeans by VETEMENTS and Balenciaga sneakers.
