The Best Earrings Of The Season (And Some Stylish Ways To Stack Them)

In a not-so-distant past, jewellery wasn’t exactly the first thing that would spring to mind when one thought of men’s style. It was a relatively uncharted, gendered territory largely reserved for a fashion-forward audience. Today, however, the men’s jewellery market is the most dazzling it’s ever been, with poster boys such as Messrs Evan Mock, Harry Styles and Jaden Smith embracing the latest trends.

Much like ties, pocket squares or cufflinks, in a more formal sense, a well-chosen piece of jewellery is the finishing touch that can really make an outfit. And if loud accessories aren’t your bag, jewellery can also offer a more subtle way of experimenting with your personal style. Whether you’re just building up your collection or just need some novelty, earrings are the best place to start – not least because they are one of the easiest pieces of jewellery to mix together, or stack. Here are five of our favourites at MR PORTER right now (and some stylish combinations to try).

Known for its colourful beaded bracelets, Miami-based label Luis Morais has turned its design lens to the kind of understated jewellery that wouldn’t look out of place with everyday outfits. Intended to embrace the edge of your lobe, these huggies are cast from gold in a slightly chunkier profile than classic hoops. Stack yours with a gold stud and Foundrae’s horseshoe earring, which symbolises protection and combats negativity.

If bold accessories aren’t your thing, try adding a touch of personality to your look with MAPLE’s studs. They’re made from polished silver and engraved with the brand’s take on the squinting smiley face. Wear yours next to a hoop and a pendant earring – Miansai’s subtle Crux style is a failsafe choice.

If we’d have to follow any advice on how to stack earrings, it’d have to be Maria Tash’s – the New York label has developed a technique, dubbed Curated Ear®, whereby clients combine and style different types of earrings and studs together, according to their personal aesthetic. Our suggestion? This lightning bolt, diamond-encrusted pendant. Wear it next to a simple hoop or a low-key pendant.

The confident dressers among us (and those who aren’t quite ready to pierce their ears just yet) will appreciate Alexander McQueen’s cuff. Designed in a cage-like structure that fits around your ear without the need for a piercing, it’s a serious statement that looks striking on its own, but even moreso when stacked with a geometric stud (such as CELINE HOMME’s) or Jam Homemade’s safety pin-inspired earring.

Use MAOR’s hoop to inject a dash of colour into otherwise neutral outfits – the diamonds and tsavorites in different shades of green will catch the light nicely. Add some more bling with Maria Tash’s white gold and diamond triangle stud and EÉRA's glinting huggie – diamonds can be a man’s best friend, too.
