THE JOURNAL
You can tell a lot about a man by what he wears to bed. A stylish chap in the streets may turn out to be a slob in the sheets. But just because fewer people are around to witness what you choose to put on (or take off) when the lights go out, that doesn’t mean the effort you put into bedtime dressing is wasted. Whether it’s indulging in a pair of silk boxer shorts or splashing out on a smart dressing gown, giving more thought to what you wear when you hit the hay is a powerful act of self-care and should be treated as such. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a bedtime dress code to help you out. May all your dreams be well-dressed.
01.
The bedtime adventurer
Pyjamas don’t need to be devoid of personality, as this coordinated linen set from Desmond & Dempsey shows. Printed with a scene of cheetahs running wild through the jungle, it’s just the thing for an evening spent lounging on the sofa. And is it just us, or is that shirt too good to be confined to the house? We’re not suggesting you show up to work in your pyjamas. The bar on the other hand…

The somnambulant peacock
To really make an impression in the bedroom, look to TOM FORD. No one does soigné sleepwear quite like the master, and this tasselled, piped and floral printed silk robe and matching pyjama trousers will set you in good stead for the night. So, whether you choose to spend your evenings smoking cigars, drinking scotch and planning to take over the world, or simply watching Netflix, you’ll be dressed for the occasion.
03.
The comfort chaser
Getting dressed for bed is the one time where the only expectations we need to meet are our own, so it’s only right to invest in some seriously comfortable sleep gear – a good-quality dressing gown and a pair of cashmere socks will do the job. And don’t forget the slippers – no man can be anything but cosy when wearing this pair of “hug me” panda bears from VETEMENTS.

The Zen master
If you need a good night’s sleep to function, then you’ll know that getting ready for bed is all about achieving the right state of mind. To help you calm down and de-stress after a long day, put down the phone, pour yourself a cup of something warm, and slip into a comfortable set of fresh cotton pyjamas. Then, wrap yourself in a blanket – this patchwork one from 11.11/eleven will do nicely – and spend half an hour getting stuck into a good book. Just feel the mundane worries of the day melt away.

The easy riser
Good style never sleeps, and if you’re the kind of guy who appreciates a good fit no matter the occasion, then you’ll no doubt be pleased to find some Rick Owens that you can wear to bed. These pink shorts from fashion’s dark lord and this Fear of God tee are both comfortable enough to sleep in, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them out of the house on a casual day, too. And absolutely no one is too old for a cashmere teddy bear from The Elder Statesman.
