Five Things You Should Have In Your Beach Bag

Words by Emma Pradella

The summer holidays are in full swing and – at last – we reach those long-awaited days of fighting for a lounger on sun-drenched beaches. Of all the public places that we might find ourselves, the beach is where we wear the fewest clothes of all, so perhaps your outfit is not your greatest concern. There are, however, a couple of things that belong in every style-conscious man’s beach bag, and we’ve collected a few of them here. From a bucket hat to protect you from sun rays to a better-than-average beach towel and, of course, a good pair of sunglasses, here’s some of the beach essentials we can’t live without at MR PORTER.

01.

The SSAM bucket hat

SSAM’s bucket hat is made from the brand’s Techno Silk, a crinkled material that’s exceptionally lightweight and quick drying, allowing you to pack it away in your beach bag without fear of it losing its shape. The versatile navy colour works well with relaxed tailoring and casual staples (or just a pair of swim shorts).

02.

The Brunello Cucinelli beach towel

If you’re not one to turn up to the beach with standard hotel-provided towels, consider elevating you sunlounger setup with Brunello Cucinelli’s design. Soft and super-absorbent, it’s embroidered with the brand’s emblem – a reference to its Solomeo headquarters.

03.

The Frescobol Carioca bat and ball set

Looking for something to while away the time when you’ve finished your book and listened to all your downloaded podcasts? Bring on the fun with Frescobol Carioca’s bat and ball set. It’s the brand’s original product – “frescobol” is the name of the game in its native Rio de Janeiro – and still as popular as ever.

04.

The Loro Piana throwing disc

If you like a little entertainment on the beach, Loro Piana’s PVC flying disc is another great way to stay active. Aptly named Portofino, it’s durable and compact, meaning it’ll slip into your suitcase without taking up too much space.

05.

The TOM FORD aviator sunglasses

Now don’t say we didn’t save the best till last… If you’re talking about beach essentials, they don’t get much more essential than sunglasses. And TOM FORD’s are as stylish as they get. The tortoiseshell and silver-tone construction gives them a cool, retro appeal.
