20 Fun Ways That Every Man Can Wear Pink

Words by The MR PORTER Team

8 February 2022

Think pink, and it’s probably not menswear that first comes to mind. Still, why shouldn’t it be? Times have changed since it was considered adventurous to wear a pink tie to the office. And today, the idea that a certain shade should be confined to a gender is being greeted with serious, well, shade. Indeed, if you like it, wear it. From rose-coloured shearling to magenta enamel jewellery, pink is an easy colour to be charmed by – see for yourself below.

01.

The dusty cerise varsity bomber jacket

“Flamingo Tensions”, which comes emblazoned across the back of this bomber, might sound like a particularly droll Twitter hashtag during a lively Attenborough documentary. And for all we know it is. But it’s also the title of a 2015 piece by Mr Scott Reeder. He’s one of 14 emerging artists showcased across CELINE HOMME’s latest collection, and this varsity-style virgin wool jacket is one of the standout pieces.

02.

The hot pink cashmere shorts

We’ve come to expect luxurious cashmere in vibrant, fun colours from The Elder Statesman. Proof, however, that the cult Californian label still has a few tricks up its sleeve, here are some shorts. In a shade the designer calls “Electric Pink”, this pair feature a discrete drawstring and pockets along the seams, as if discretion was a priority.

03.

The bubblegum sweatpants

By now, we’d confidently bet that a cosy pair of joggers sits among the top three most-worn items in your wardrobe. You’ll get no sweat shaming from us. In fact, we say turn a less-than-happy accident into “a thing” and collect-’em-all in every colour, starting with this tapered pair from 1017 ALYX 9SM.

04.

The pioneering blush T-shirt

If you ever wondered why, around six or seven years ago, a soft shade of pink started cropping everywhere from the jackets of novels to interiors of smart restaurants, then allow us to point you to the culprit. According to fashion folklore, it was Acne Studios who pioneered the trend with its covetable, culture-resetting shopping bags – and if this logo-printed T-shirt is anything to go by, it’s a badge that the brand wears with pride.

05.

The standout fuchsia sweater

A dusty, pared-back pink with just the right amount of brown or grey practically reads as a neutral. But a hot pink like this AMI PARIS sweater? Not so much. If you’re feeling bold, try pairing it with the brand’s (marginally less head-turning) pale-pink socks and T-shirt. Alternatively, leave it in the box and give it to your Valentine as a wearable declaration d’amour.

06.

The Barbie pink collab track top

Under Mr Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s cultural touchpoints are wide-ranging, it appears. One season, it’s the awe-inspiring grandeur of the pyramids of ancient Egypt. This time around, it’s the eleven-and-half inch crown jewel of toy manufacturer Mattel. Alongside sugary-pink slip-on sneakers and a Y2K-style trucker hat you’ll find this logoed shell track jacket. Its silhouette may hark back to the 1980s, but it couldn’t be more of the moment.

07.

The magenta cap-bag-lanyard hybrid

Before we get bogged down with what you could actually store in this tiny bag – disposable contact lenses, individual tiddlywinks, fun-sized confectionary? – it’s worth noting that there is a lot to unpack. It looks like a cap, but it is a bag, and one that you could carry around your neck like a lanyard or wear cross-body like a belt bag. What it does do, however, is demonstrate JW Anderson’s skill for turning out-there ideas into lavish real-world objects, here with some rather fine leatherworking.

08.

The metallic rouge hoodie

For a time, the hoodie was the item of clothing you turned to when you were seriously hungover and wanted to go unnoticed. Here, Valentino has come at this modern wardrobe staple from a very different angle. Woven from shimmering silvery-pink threads and embossed with the designer’s logo, it can be paired with matching shorts if this piece alone doesn’t cover it.

09.

The candyfloss flight jacket

While this shearling number follows the template of classic flying jackets, its hue makes it far from standard issue. As you’d expect from VETEMENTS, it’s not skimped on quality, cutting the fluffiest Italian shearling in a generous silhouette.

10.

The trendy taffy argyle sweater

Marni’s argyle sweaters are pretty much the hottest thing in fashion right now, so we couldn’t help but include this pink style in our edit. It’s knitted from fuzzy mohair in a slightly loose stitch. Pair it with the brand’s matching clogs, which is also part of Mr Francesco Risso’s eclectic, humorous latest collection for the house.

11.

The punchy patchworked jeans

We were very pleased to launch Ms Marine Serre’s SS22 collection just last week, and thought there would be no better way to introduce the French designer than with this pair of jeans. In line with her environmentally conscious design ethos, they’re patchworked from upcycled denim and printed with the brand’s ubiquitous moon emblem.

12.

The plush blush slippers

The phrase “stay at home” has become something of a daunting metaphor for the past couple of years. But if there’s something that’s really worth staying in for, it’d be these Manolo Blahnik slippers. They have velvety suede uppers and leather cushioned footbeds that are – needless to say – extremely comfortable.

13.

The flamingo Puzzle bag

Perky, practical and… molten pink – LOEWE’s belt bag is the “it” of the it-bags. Epitomising the Spanish house’s decades-long leatherwork expertise, it’s crafted from supple hide with an adjustable strap that’ll allow you to carry it around the waist or over the shoulder. Still puzzled?

14.

The shocking pink diamond earring

Act one of the origin story of EÉRA’s Italian-made contemporary jewellery actually begins in Tokyo, where the brand’s founders Mses Chiara Capitani and Romy Blanga chanced upon a snap hook in a vintage market. This diamond earring, forged from white gold, with a silver swing tag overlaid in a hot pink, is named in honour of that encounter.

15.

The highlighter pink socks

To say that legendary Spanish luxury house LOEWE has embraced fun under creative director Mr Jonathan Anderson is something of an understatement. This dazzling pair of socks is testament to that. Whether it’s a cheeky flash of neon pink under a trouser break or a fully-fledged invitation to footsie, this turns the most basic of accessories into something altogether more playful.

16.

The bandana-print cargo shorts

When she isn’t busy deconstructing Nike sneakers, Sacai designer Ms Chitose Abe likes nothing better than getting stuck into bandana print. A running theme in her collections, this particular pink pattern provides a high-spirited remix of a Scout leader’s favourite short trousers.

17.

The rose gold diamond ring

This ring to rule them all was forged not in the fire of Orodruin, rather to the far west of your standard Peters projection map, in Los Angeles. Here, it was handmade by mother and daughter team Mses Suzanne and Patile Kalan from rose gold, punctuated with baguette diamonds and pink sapphires. And great powers does it contain.

18.

The lemonade suede jacket

Mr Mark Weston, Dunhill’s creative director, does a fantastic job of reinventing classic menswear in a way that feels authentically contemporary. This suede jacket in a shade the brand calls “Lilac Haze” is a brilliant example. It’s unlined, so it feels extra light to wear, and will look great with pretty much anything you pair it with.

19.

The champagne pink leather belt bag

Think of Bottega Veneta’s blushing Cassette as more of a wearable wallet than a bag. Its dinky size shouldn’t be underestimated, however: accessorise your outfit with this for an instant sartorial pick-me-up.

20.

The salmon party shades

Pink and sunglasses go together like tequila and lime, and this pair from Cutler and Gross look like the prime thing to take to a party. They’re almost enough to make you book the next flight to Miami and check into the Faena. Almost.
