Think you have a killer dress sense? Get the American Psycho look. Only without the plastic sheeting and chainsaw.
“With this, you really get to go on the ride with him,” says Mr Benjamin Walker of playing Patrick Bateman in American Psycho – The Musical, which opened on Broadway yesterday (The Hollywood Reporter is calling it “a riveting journey of existential ennui”). As Patrick Bateman is notorious for being an investment banker, the ultimate yuppie, and a serial slaughterer, this sounds like an immersive theatre experience too far (although there’s an argument to be made that there’s a little Patrick Bateman in all of us), but Mr Walker is emphasising the audience interaction he engages in every night, calling out crisp-bag-crinklers and mobile-phone-wielders alike as he embodies the bloodlust of 1980s excess and poses his strictly rhetorical question: “Did you know I’m utterly insane?”
THE OPENING NIGHT LOOK

A key part of the American Psycho experience is, of course, the authentic 1980s power dressing. MR PORTER is very proud to have supplied elements of the men’s wardrobe for the musical, which is just one reason (albeit a pretty crucial one, as far as we’re concerned) why it looks so good. And we’re particularly keen on the outfit Mr Walker wore for the opening night, which featured a suitably imposing double-breasted number from MR PORTER-exclusive brand Kingsman. Scroll down to shop the look, and keep your eyes peeled for our full interview with Mr Walker in The Journal next month.
