6 Luxury Sandals To Keep You On Your Toes This Summer
Words by Mr Jim Merrett
3 July 2024

Here comes the hotstepper. Emphasis on hot. Sure, right now you look like the sartorial, if not lyrical, gangster. But wouldn’t you feel better – cooler, even – with a bit of ventilation? We’re talking summer-appropriate footwear, namely sandals. Wait, don’t high-tail it out of here just yet. A new breed of pieces from the likes of TOM FORD, Bottega Veneta and LOEWE will have you stepping out in style. Hot foot it this way.

01. The TOM FORD croc-effect leather sandals
With a name like Brighton, you’d expect these sandals by TOM FORD – who here puts the T (and an F) into T-bar – to like to be beside the seaside. Although we’d picture Capri more than the capricious English coast, the grippy rubber soles will still hold their own on a pebbly beach.

02. The trademark Bottega Veneta suede sandals
Bottega Veneta has turned its intrecciato leather weave, originally employed to strengthen its hides, into a strong brand signature. And in a bid to have you dressing in it from head to toe, we’ll go feet first. Here, the motif appears in soft suede atop a supple leather footbed.

03. The LOEWE classic fisherman’s sandals
It would be a natty fisherman landing their haul in a pair of these. More likely, these Campo leather closed-toe sandals by LOEWE would look the part firmly on terra firma. Still, they make for quite the catch.

04. The Dries Van Noten braided leather sandals
Trust Dries Van Noten to offer a point of difference. These sandals have been made in Italy from a black leather that’s been braided, with a supportive footbed and serrated rubber sole for extra traction. Speaking of purchase, we think you should.

05. The refined Manolo Blahnik crocodile-effect sandals
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective. These sandals by Manolo Blahnik stay in place thanks to a pared-back crisscross leather straps. They are designed to emulate another timeless symbol of efficiency – crocodilian reptiles are thought to have been around for some 95 million years – although are in fact made from calf.

06. The sleek SAINT LAURENT leather flip-flops
OK, we know what you’re thinking – flip-flops are ideal for those two weeks poolside in August. But the rest of the year? Not so much. Think of SAINT LAURENT’s entry instead as glossy leather sandals at their most minimal, with everything superfluous shaved off. As such, they’re more aligned to a sharp suit than a swimsuit.
