Moncler’s New Collection Is The Key To Spring Style

Founded in the French Alps in 1952, Moncler is perhaps the definitive sports-luxe clothing brand. It began with unbeatable down jackets and cold weather workwear, which were quickly adopted by the mountaineering community, Winter Olympic athletes and, eventually, the fashion set.

Today, outdoors gear is still at the heart of the maison and Moncler’s hardwearing codes are intertwined with avant garde design, typified by the Genius collaborations with the likes of Rick Owens and Mercedes-Benz by NIGO.

Moncler’s SS25 collection represents the brand’s desire to bring pioneering technology and everyday wearability under one banner, using technical fabrics in simple, easy-wearing staples for the city. Think light, layerable outerwear, cropped and relaxed silhouettes, elevated essentials and, of course, protection from the elements, all punctuated by that iconic Feltrino logo – and perfect for the in-between months. Here’s four ways to style the lineup now.

01. Play with proportion

Moncler states that its new collection is “anchored in tough workwear codes and fabrics”. And no better is that typified than in pieces like these straight leg double-knee trousers, which come constructed from hard-wearing cotton gabardine, a classic technical fabric designed to keep the weather at bay.

Cut with a fuller-than-normal leg, the reinforced knee detailing works well as contrast to a more formal loafer. Or, better yet, a chunky trail running sneaker. Step forward Moncler’s Trailgrip GTX, which combines leather and fabric in an all-day-everyday outdoor shoe.

And like all oversized pieces, trousers like these are best balanced out with more compact shapes – and the Evandro shell jacket fits the bill. Finishing at the waist with a straight-cut hem and snap-button closure, it has the perfect boxy silhouette to offset the trousers.

02. Go tonal

A sure-fire way to add slickness to any look is to go tonal and keep everything colour-on-colour. It’s really simple – you just operate in various gradients and textures of the same shade, unsurprisingly, is the most effective of all. With the latest collection, you can take a piece such as this pullover sweat and pair it with corresponding trousers, or even shorts, such as this wide-leg pair cut from a sturdy cotton twill.

What would be an otherwise simple look is elevated by the details. The sweat features an oversized snap-closure pocket on the chest and exaggerated zip closures under each arm. These not only add a touch of texture to the look, but allow you to play with the silhouette, keeping them closed for a classic shape, or open for a play on the boxy look. And functionally, they allow for improved breathability in warmer weather, too.

03. Layer up

The SS25 collection features pieces equipped with removable hoods, or double-fastening jackets with studded snap buttons and zippers. These allow you to make a look modular, swapping elements in and out. Start with a classic crew-neck tee – the basis of any great layered look – then add a V-neck knit or zip-down hood. Finally, the Montriond hooded windbreaker. Its recycled nylon construction will be the best companion through unpredictable spring weather.

With a layered look, you can add or remove pieces as the day goes on. The great thing about a jacket like the Montriond is that it is light enough to sit over the other layers without bunching. It also features a hidden hood in the collar, so it’s ready if the rain comes down.

04. Keep it classic

If in doubt, trust in the menswear classics. The new collection is peppered with elevated essentials such as this khaki green windbreaker, a clear descendent of the classic Harrington and M65 field jacket. This makes it a cheat code for any casual fit. It features handy details such as a hidden hood, and snap and zip fastenings, but the real prowess is in its cropped, boxy shape, which is perfect with pleated and wide-leg trousers or jeans.

Wear it with a simple crew-neck sweater – such as Moncler’s chest-pocketed number – and clean white sneakers. And keep the accessories classic, too. A woven belt, a great steel tool watch, some simple black shades… Easy peasy.
