THE JOURNAL

The British brand’s February 2017 collection is available now.
Throughout the 12 months that normal people usually refer to as “the year”, there’s an alternate calendar that’s observed by much of the fashion community. During this period – which they also confusingly call “the year” – there are two, not four seasons, (spring/summer and autumn/winter), and these are generally celebrated with runway shows, six months in advance of the corresponding seasons in the regular year. Doesn’t it all make perfect sense?
Anyway, the relevance of all this is that in 2017, Burberry has decided to do something quite radical, and – gasp – align the fashion year with the actual year, meaning that its February 2017 collection, which just showed at London Fashion Week an hour ago, is actually available to buy in February 2017. As in, now. On MR PORTER. Really, just click through – it’s all here.

The Burberry February 2017 collection, inspired by the iconic English artist Mr Henry Moore, is a free-flowing and poetic celebration of classic British clothing, from chunky, oversized fisherman’s sweaters to maritime stripes and new, loosely draped versions of the house’s famous outerwear. Throughout, exaggerated proportions – influenced by Mr Moore’s approach to scale and form in his sculptures – channel an eccentric, artistic sensibility, while the subtle colour palette of navy, beige, grey and khaki brings to mind the muted colours of the English coastline. Key pieces in the MR PORTER edit include an oversized trench coat with turned-up, buccaneer-style sleeves, as well as impeccably tailored pleated trousers, tactile knitwear and deconstructed, asymmetric shirting. But don’t just take our word for it – shop the collection now.
