For SS24, ZEGNA may just have out done themselves. Oasi Lino – repped by the inimitable actor Mr Mads Mikkelsen – is a collection of refined everyday wear that looks and feel light and airy, and wears like a dream. Oasi, the Italian word for oasis, is an apt title for such a collection. Each piece will quench the thirst of any man starving for refined pieces in calming colourways.

The collection also echoes the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Sartori and his team took great pains to emphasise a sustainable approach in their sourcing of fabrics and materials. The fibres, specifically season-perfect linens­, used in Oasi Lino are 100 per cent traceable in 2024.

Even the runway show demonstrated the circularity at the heart of this collection, using flax bales sourced from Normandy first as décor, and then as the fabrication for the final collection. In order to ensure this precious material was treated with the utmost care and respect, ZEGNA partnered with the last two remaining spinning mills in Europe, resulting in fabrics that are sustainably produced and of excellent final quality.

But what about the pieces themselves? We’re partial to the khaki suit (worn by Mikkelsen in the campaign, of course) for its louche fit and delectable drape. Italian tailoring at its very best, this soft beige two-piece wears beautifully and styles impeccably. We like it with a tonal sweater worn beneath, but a white linen shirt would add a touch of formality for a summer wedding or evening out.

Elsewhere in the collection, you will spot black linen belted shorts and a vacation-worthy overshirt. Structured without being stiff, tailored without appearing stuffy, these pieces are packable, soft, and precise, the ultimate matching set for a long weekend on the Riviera or a laid-back country weekend in the sun.

Sartori was inspired by lightness and volume, aiming to create a collection that is deceptively wearable. “The overall fluidity makes it all look quiet and luxurious,” he said, “but the tension in the details, the richness of colours and the freedom [of] infinite combinations suggest is not quiet at all.”

Taken together, it’s true that the pieces can be combined in seemingly infinite ways. A full suit breaks into easy pieces – an unlined jacket that can be worn with trousers in a contrasting hue, for example, or pleat-front trousers that can be styled with a drapey polo shirt. The use of 100 per cent natural fibres ensure that you won’t overheat in the midday sun, while generous yet slim silhouettes look classic and modern at the same time.

Oasi Lino is destined to become a classic in its time thanks to the care and precision in everything from the design to the fabrication. But why wait? Early summer is the perfect time to invest in pieces that will see you through the season. After all, no holiday is complete without linen, and sweltering city commutes, too, require garments that breathe and flow. Though cashmere and silk have staked their claims to the “height of luxury”, ZEGNA is making quite a convincing case for linen, especially when it has been woven, as this has, with such care and respect for our environment and our artisans.
