Five Colourful Pieces To Welcome In Tutti-Frutti Spring
Words by Lucy Kingett
27 February 2023

It’s almost March, the trend reports continue to roll in and, this year, fashion is going all out. Bare skin? Check. Double denim? Check. We’ve had our fill of doom and gloom recently and, well, the news isn’t getting any brighter. But what can get brighter is our clothes. That’s why this spring, it’s all about getting fruity. So, cover yourself in dessert-toned drapery and an ice-cream inspired outfit. Go for punchy pastels to bring pepped-up positivity to your look and accessorise with zingy sorbet shades. Think polychromatic garden party in the summer heat and bowls of juicy peaches and strawberries topped with clouds of whipped cream. Still with us? Now you have your vision board, let us introduce you to a few easy ways to turn your wardrobe truly tropical.

01.
The cantaloupe custard Maison Margiela bag
If the idea of introducing strong colours to your outfit seems daunting, our first suggestion would be a bag. Easy to style and practical, too, a bold bag says “I like to try new things” without committing to having that thing stuck to your body all day. The creamy melon green of this Glam Slam padded leather messenger bag from Maison Margiela takes what would otherwise be a simple accessory and injects it with undeniable weekend vibes.

02.
The dragon fruit jelly Marine Serre shirt
Another great way to test out your colour capacity is on holiday. All bets are off when you’re abroad and no one knows who you are. Marine Serre’s punchy fuchsia camp-collar shirt in tactile cotton-blend terry Jacquard is our pick for the pool or beach. Or, if you’re not going to either of those any time soon, wear it with jeans and a pair of chunky loafers or sneakers. Don’t be shy, we bet one wear of this will have you wishing your colleagues would ask to see those vacation snaps.

03.
The mango sorbet CELINE HOMME bucket hat
For the casualwear heads among us, this teddy-bear soft alpaca and wool-blend bucket hat by CELINE HOMME is a fruity winner. It’s giving us mango sorbet, roasted banana or saffron kulfi. And, thankfully, the structured shape means it’ll suit most face shapes. Team with a simple hoodie and sweats for an instantly brightened weekend look.

04.
The blueberry pie LOEWE sunglasses
Combining avant-garde inflated proportions reminiscent of a sculpture by Mr Jeff Koons with a pinch of wild retro aesthetic, these striking sunglasses from LOEWE are crafted from opaque cobalt-blue acetate and smoke-grey lenses. A quick way to add a pop of fresh and full-bodied colour to any outfit, we’ll be pairing ours with tailoring and an equally bold T-shirt.

05.
The ube ice cream AMIRI sneakers
Even besides the current trend for fruit cocktail colours, confident outlier purple has been reigning supreme for the last few seasons all by itself. Whether it be rich royal purple, soft mauve or a deep wine hue, it seems that this particular colour is here to stay. For a new way to wear it, why not try AMIRI’s Bone Runner sneakers, a vintage-inspired style featuring the label’s instantly recognisable bone motif.
