THE JOURNAL

It seems like it was only a few weeks ago that we were shovelling snow from our driveways and bundling into our thermals (to be fair, in London, it actually was a few weeks ago). But, just like that, spring has finally sprung. And not to get ahead of ourselves here, but the turning forward of clocks has reminded us that the long days and balmy nights of summer are just around the corner. To tide us all over until then, we’ve picked out seven of the best T-shirts from across the board that scream summer holidays (some quite literally). Sure, you may have to layer them under a jacket for the time being, but they’ll deliver your daily dose of vitamin D all the same.
01.
The nautical Rhude T-shirt

Rhude’s globe-trotting creative director joins a long list of rich and glamorous types who’ve been entranced by the Caribbean island of St Barths over the years – and frankly who can blame him. Not in the position to helicopter out there yourself this instant? Not to worry. Mr Rhuigi Villaseñor has been so kind to create this souvenir T-shirt you can cop instead.
02.
The sporty Casablanca tee

Frankly, a summer vacation wouldn’t feel like summer vacation without throwing a bit of Casablanca into our suitcase (specifically our Casablanca x Globe-Trotter suitcase). This time around, we’ll be packing this fictional tennis club T-shirt, which neatly sums up Mr Charaf Tajer’s singular brand of luxe-resortwear-meet-retro-sportswear.
03.
The something-to-write-home-about Palm Angels tee

The word “California” might typically conjure images of sun-soaked Santa Monica beaches and Goop-y wellness, but Palm Angels is on a mission to showcase the Golden State’s grittier side. Case in point: by way of a light distressing, technicoloured graphic print and mildly ironic “Wish you were here” slogan, the cult skatewear brand has transformed the all-American white tee into something far less wholesome.
04.
The nostalgic PARADISE surf T-shirt

Sure, your years of “spring-breaking” (or whatever your national equivalent is) may be far, far behind you, but that shouldn’t stop you from indulging in a little nostalgia every now and again. Enter PARADISE’s vintage-inspired “Surf Shop” tee, which allows you to relive the hedonistic pleasures of your youth, without the morning-after consequences.
05.
The OOO-on A.P.C. tee

Clearly someone at A.P.C. HQ had mentally clocked out of the office when they conceived this cheery albeit straight-to-the-point piece (sometimes you just need to spell it out). A warning, though: wearing this T-shirt to your own workplace – especially after you’ve just returned from your own vacances – might be seen as an act of passive aggression.
06.
The beach-mode Jacquemus T-shirt

Sure, he may be a firm fixture on the achingly glamorous Paris fashion scene, but Mr Simon Porte Jacquemus is and has always been a proud man of the south. Over the years, he’s showed his collections in Arles and helped put of-the-moment Marseille on the map. Here he wears his Provençal roots on his sleeve – quite literally – with a T-shirt that evokes the heavenly Cote d’Azur weather all those bourgeois Parisiens secretly envy.
07.
The totally tropical CELINE HOMME tee

If sexy, sulky CELINE HOMME is the last brand you’d think to bring along on a tropical beach holiday, then perhaps it’s time to think again. As it happens, Mr Hedi Slimane had more far-flung locales than the Rive Droite on the brain this season, whipping up this studded palm-tree tee that’s both warm-weather appropriate and characteristically rock’n’roll.
