THE JOURNAL

Hey, quiet luxury gang – look away now. With summer on the horizon, and the mercury slowly but surely creeping up, we at MR PORTER can’t help but crave something a little more… splashy. In that vein, we’ve picked out seven joyful shirts that deliver all the colour, print and personality that any maximalist could ever want from their garments this season. And in cotton-poplin, silk, organza and other such delicious fabrics, we can assure you they’re no less luxurious for it.
01.
The paisley Jacquemus shirt

If there’s anyone who could entice us into a spot of paisley this season, it’s the prince of summer himself, Mr Simon Porte Jacquemus. Here, the French designer has infused the once grandmotherly print with characteristic sex appeal and wearability by dialling it down in soft faded hues and setting atop a slouchy-fit cotton canvas.
02.
The crinkled Acne Studios satin shirt

Never been big on ironing? You’ll be thrilled to learn that the crinkled look is hot right now. Leading the charge this season is Acne Studios, whose slouchy Sandroki shirt in a bold print by artist Ms Karen Kilimnik takes that nonchalant “I just threw this on” vibe that we all secretly want to exude to another (more literal) level.
03.
The corduroy ERL shirt

“Corduroy for summer?” you cry. Not for the sweatier days, admittedly, but instead think of this ERL shirt-slash-overshirt in an eye-catching jade green as the ideal transitional piece for is-it-isn’t-it weather (of which we get plenty here in London) – as well as a shortcut to livening up an outfit of neutrals.
04.
The painterly Marni shirt

You’ve stowed away your fuzzy mohair sweaters for spring, but still need your Marni fix? Don’t worry, there’s plenty of warm-weather gear from the label to sink your teeth into this season. Take this painterly camp-collar shirt in a crisp cotton-poplin, which answers the age-old question “Is fashion art?” with a resounding yes.
05.
The AMIRI Californian camp-collar shirt

If anyone’s qualified to craft top-notch summer clothing, it’s the folk at AMIRI, who are based out in the perpetually sunny state of California. And just in case those of us who less lucky needed reminding of their provenance, they’ve adorned this elaborate silk-twill shirt with landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Rodeo Drive and more.
06.
The Casablanca shirt

More is more in the land of Casablanca’s Mr Charaf Tajer, who’s never been afraid to pack on the pattern. Case in point: this 100 per cent silk shirt, where he’s melded a tropical summerscape, a checkerboard print and more colours than we could possibly name in a way that shouldn’t work – but does.
07.
The floral 4SDESIGNS shirt

Are you bold enough to wear hot pink? How about hot pink florals? If your answer is, “Sure, why not?” – and life’s too short not to take a style risk every now and again, don’t you think? – then you’ll want to dive into this exquisitely constructed organza shirt by 4SDESIGNS. It is a conversation-starter if ever we saw one.
