The Only Shoes You’ll Need To Pack This Travel Season

Right now, millions of people across the globe are tentatively holding their finger above the enter key, about to book their first big holiday of the year. That’s not to say you haven’t been away already (we know what you’re like), but those grand summer vacations are in the gestation phase – so now is when your thoughts must turn to clever packing. Shorts, sun cream, snorkel (if you’re that way inclined) ticked off, next on the list are shoes. But which to choose? We say five pairs is enough – something for every occasion, with no unnecessary excess baggage along for the ride.

01. The classic Mr P. sneakers
First is the inevitable plane, train, boat or car journey to your intended destination. Don’t weird everyone out by revealing your chilly toes ahead of time. A classic white sneaker is the choice here, which can then be repurposed for activities like exploring the city or hikes up to panorama points. Mr P. offer us this perfect pair in breathable full-grain leather with contrasting tan rubber soles and inner collar lining.

02. The comfortable Gucci day shoes
Whether it’s padding around a gallery or historical site, perusing the quaint shops of a fishing village or simply wandering the grounds of your hotel or villa, a soft and supple closed-toe shoe for everyday wear is a must. These comfortable Gucci driving shoes in chocolate-brown leather feature rubber pebble soles (in the GG logo no less), gold-tone hardware (more GG here) and front tie.

03. The versatile Manolo Blahnik sandals
A leather sandal that can be worn with all types of trousers and shorts will serve you well for a multitude of occasions and take up very little room in your case. This classy black leather and suede pair by Manolo Blahnik is designed with Florentine flair in mind. Their buckled heel strap and moulded footbeds mean there’ll be no slip or soreness issues, too – and all while keeping your toes cool.

04. The timeless G.H. Bass & Co. evening loafers
What’s better than coming back from a day lounging at the beach or pool to shower and slip into a fresh outfit for the evening ahead, when dinner and drinks are the only plans and there’s no work tomorrow? We’re going to go with a bold “nothing”. Loafers are the obvious choice (comfortable, versatile, timeless, chic), and if this is a one-shoe-to-rule-them-all situation, it’s got to be G.H. Bass & Co.’s burgundy leather kiltie Weejuns.

05. The beach-appropriate Loro Piana slides
Put the flip flops down and step away from those plastic logo slides. For the beach, pool or seaside lunch spot, grab a pair of Loro Piana’s elegant woven leather sandals. Crafted in the brand’s Italian atelier from flexible yet hardwearing leather and set on a traditional sole, the braided detail and logo stamping add a little extra interest. Don’t be scared to let them weather and get a little patina, either. These are sandals you’ll have for a while.
