THE JOURNAL
Contrary to other high-intensity sports, golf doesn’t require flashy, hyper-technical kit or a strict uniform. What makes the best golfwear the best isn’t usually immediately visible.
We’re talking about clothing that allows you to move freely while maintaining a sartorial sensibility that wouldn’t look out of place in casual settings. Think timeless silhouettes, such as polo shirts, vests and chinos, designed for form and function and staples that rely on technical materials and practical details, such as smart closures, pockets and rain or UV-resistant fabric treatments.
Those elements of if-you-know-you-know contemporary flair and exacting design standards are what brought together our in-house label, Mr P., and golf brand G/FORE to collaborate on a brand new 12-piece golfwear capsule – now available at MR PORTER – that will keep you stylish and comfortable from the course to the clubhouse.
“G/FORE echoes Mr P.’s dedication to timelessness and uncompromising quality while marrying its contemporary approach to design with the sport’s rich history,” says Mr Olie Arnold, MR PORTER’s Style Director. “Whether teeing off at noon or enjoying a post-round refreshment at the 19th hole, the collection has been designed for golf enthusiasts who are as passionate about their style as their game.”
And, for the next month, 50 per cent of the capsule net profits will be donated to MR PORTER’s Health In Mind, our initiative dedicated to supporting mental and physical health and helping men live happier and more fulfilling lives.
Highlights from the capsule include contrast-tipped button-up and open-collar co-branded polo shirts – all made from technical blends with moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties – and three pairs of trousers: stretch tech-twill five-pocket chinos, shorts for warmer days and a pair of single-pleat trousers for smarter rounds.
Don’t miss the accessories, which include the Daytona leather golf bag – equipped with six practical compartments (including a full-length apparel pocket, a magnetic ball pocket and a beverage pouch), extendible chrome-plated legs and a matching rain hood to protect it from the elements – a crocheted cotton bucket hat and contrast-tipped gloves, made from soft cabretta leather for optimum grip.
There are two footwear options, too. Both designed to be waterproof and breathable, the Gallivan2R features dual-density 3D moulded heel cups and G/FORE‘s signature G/POD cleat system, while the Gallivanter split-toe has triple-density foam cushion footbeds for comfort and the brand’s G/Ground control technology cleat design.
Alongside the joint collection, Mr P. debuts its own golfwear capsule, ideal for those who are looking for something a little less performance-driven or seeking to add a sporty edge to their smart-casual attire.
The edit features blouson jackets, made from buttery suede or microcheck seersucker, and quick-drying seersucker trousers. Also, knitted long- and short-sleeved polo shirts, designed for a relaxed fit that won’t obstruct movement; a knitted vest, inspired by classic varsity styles, embroidered with a P emblem at the chest; as well as two pairs of Mr P.’s Derby shoes, reimagined for the green.
While you may not be after beating Mr Jim Furyk’s legendary 58 on the PGA Tour during the final round of the Travelers Championship, or Mr Scottie Scheffler’s average strokes, the latest Mr P. and G/FORE collection will help you make any golf course venture a sartorial success, at the very least.
Until 11.59pm GMT on 14 May, 50 per cent of net profits for the Mr P. and G/FORE collection will be donated to the MR PORTER Health In Mind Fund, powered by Movember to support men’s mental and physical health initiatives.
