THE JOURNAL

We don’t mean to alarm you, but the Black Friday event at MR PORTER is well and truly underway. But unlike the typical frenzy you see at this time of year, you won’t find any such chaotic scenes here. We’re much more composed, thank you very much. Still, even when shopping a sale online – wisely avoiding the disarrangement of the crowded aisles – you can find yourself a little overwhelmed by sheer choice. To help you navigate our virtual shelves, our sage Style Director Mr Olie Arnold picks out five things he has his eye on.
01. The down jacket
“The North Face is a master of combining form and function in its winter-friendly designs. I always treat myself to one of the brand’s jackets every season, and this tangerine-toned one will keep me toasty in even the chilliest of conditions.”
02. The soft sweats
“I love the vintage look of garment-dyed jersey. This yellow sweatshirt from our in-house brand Mr P. will put me in a sunny mood, regardless of how grey it is outside, and, crucially, without making me look like a character from Sesame Street.”
03. The classic jeans
“Jeans should be easy and effortless, and Nudie Jeans’ appropriately-named Steady Eddie pair ticks both boxes. The washed organic denim gives them that worn-in old-favourite feel from the get-go, which means you won’t have to spend much time breaking them in.”
04. The heavy-duty socks
“I always opt for socks that are hard-wearing and just a little bit fun. To the former point, Japanese craftsmanship rarely lets you down. Blue Blue Japan’s flag pair subtly communicate their country of origin and will be taking pride of place in my top drawer.”
