THE JOURNAL

Although we wanted this new Style Council series – where we ask our members for up-to-date weekend tips on the places they know best – to be a global thing, we knew we would have to cover the well-trodden, more obvious spots along the way. So, despite kicking off last week with Maui, Hawaii (read here for more information on that), we’re heading for more familiar ground now in the shape of New York. You may think you know it well, and perhaps you do, but it’s always good to get a local’s view on what’s good right now. So, we asked NY resident and founder of Beautiful Destinations Mr Jeremy Jauncey for his top tips at the moment.

Where to eat
Springbone Kitchen

“I recommend Springbone Kitchen, an unassuming place offering wholesome and nutritious meals in the middle of Greenwich Village. This one-off, fast-casual restaurant has the best bone broth in New York City and some of the healthiest meals you can find. Breakfast, lunch and dinner here are non-GMO, organic and made from real foods that are often so hard to find in the city. Springbone Kitchen is my go-to for healthy, hearty food.”

Where to drink

“Bar Goto on Eldridge Street is my favourite place to drink in New York. It’s a small, intimate Japanese bar serving great sake cocktails and small bites. Run by award-winning bartender, Tokyo native Kenta Goto (formerly of Pegu Club fame) the space is a hidden secret away from the madness of the Lower East Side with a cool crowd of people that are in-the-know. And now you are, too.”

Where to stay

“Stay at the NoMad Hotel, and while you’re there, see ‘The Magician’. I can’t recommend it at enough. It’s almost impossible to get a table, but, if you can, it’s one of the most amazing shows you will ever see.”

What to do
“I’ve recently started going to the South Street Seaport to watch movies at the iPic Theatre and love the vibe that is developing down there. At the weekends it’s busy with people drinking and eating outdoors. Plus, it’s just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown and the Lower East Side.”

What to wear
“It might be fall, but it’s still warm(ish) in the city so I usually go for something like a Rag & Bone long-sleeve T-shirt under a plaid shirt, a pair of dark denim jeans and some Belstaff boots.”
