Wear Your Pride: 20 Rainbow Items To Flaunt This Month

Words by The MR PORTER Team

15 June 2022

There is absolutely more to Pride Month than wearing rainbows or flying the flag. Whether you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally, June is all about feeling proud of your identity and who you love without shame or fear.

That said, there are loads of excellent and brightly hued items that you can indeed don in order to show the aforementioned pride. Or perhaps you simply want to express joy through your clothing. Either way, see below for our edit of the best rainbow items to wear during Pride Month.

01.

The Bleue Burnham recycled gold sapphire ring

It’s not just the gold that’s been repurposed here. Sure, the nine-karat precious metal is recycled rather than newly minted. But the idea behind the decoration has also been borrowed from elsewhere. Using synthesised gems, London-based jeweller Mr Bleue Burnham captures the intense colours of the south of France in full bloom. A nod to the natural world that looks better left unmined.

02.

The distressed tie-dye Gallery Dept. hoodie

We say distressed – that is the process that this cotton-jersey hoodie has been through, by hand, giving it a vintage feel – but actually, this piece is at peace. Here, Mr Gerald Holtom’s stark symbol of the anti-nuclear movement is reimagined in vivid pigments at the centre of Gallery Dept.’s tie-dye pattern.

03.

The unmissable LOEWE shorts

The CND logo is a popular one this summer. And while we’re all for disarmament, this example is more about what to stick on your legs. LOEWE’s annual decampment to the White Island sees another collection in collaboration with legendary boutique Paula’s Ibiza. These zingy shorts should take you there.

04.

The marbled Acne Studios T-shirt

It would be a bold choice for a kitchen worktop. And, if not quite the same scale of investment, this pattern is just as striking in T-shirt form. Featuring swirling veins in vibrant shades of green, yellow and red and best worn in a loose, oversized cut, it would make you hard to lose in one of this summer’s festivals.

05.

The set of three Roxanna Assoulin enamel bracelets

If you are a more conservative dresser but still wish to flash a bit of colour, there are few better ways to show your stripes than with a bright bracelet (or three). Just make sure they don’t disappear after a drink or two.

06.

The Vetements printed trousers

However you identify, nothing says “out and proud” (interpret that how you will – maybe you’re making a statement, perhaps you’re just partying) more than picking up and putting on a pair of paint-splattered Vetements trousers. Why ever not?

07.

The Ralph Lauren Purple Label Amalfi swim shorts

Even if you’re on holiday on a far-flung beach, you can still embody the spirit of Pride as you lounge in the sun via these rather fetching swim shorts. You can take the boy out of the parade…

08.

The psychedelic Alanui cardigan

Whether you’re supporting Pride, or simply channelling the spirit of the acid-fuelled 1960s, make like Joseph and throw caution to the wind with an Amazing Technicolour, er, Rolling Stones lips-icon shawl-collar cashmere-blend jacquard cardigan.

09.

The kaleidoscopic Carolina Bucci bracelet

Not all bracelets have the power to reinvent themselves on a whim, but this one from fourth-generation jewellery designer Carolina Bucci features a veritable rainbow of removable beads that can be swapped around as you wish.

10.

The eye-popping Marine Serre pants

Sporting a mishmash of archival prints on stretch jersey fabric, these drawstring trousers from Marine Serre will certainly turn heads. They’re crafted from stretch jersey in a wide-leg silhouette, and feature the brand’s signature crescent moon melded into the print.

11.

The trippy Liberal Youth Ministry trousers

Liberal Youth Ministry is a gutsy brand based out of Guadalajara, Mexico, that makes deliciously trippy clothing. These trousers are case in point, and have managed to pack more colours in one pair of pants than we thought possible.

12.

The rainbow MAOR gold ring

Subtle and sophisticated, this variegated ring from MAOR is one way to bring some more colour to an outfit. Paved with a spectrum of sapphires, rubies and tsavorites, it’s an understated keepsake that you can wear with pride.

13.

The far-out Vilebrequin swimwear

Nothing says “I summer in Saint Tropez” like a pair of Vilebrequin swim shorts. From the fabulously unrestrained use of colour and pattern to their generous approach to sizing – they run all the way up to XXXL – they’re clearly designed with a hedonistic lifestyle in mind. This pair, decorated with a 1970s-inspired floral print, should be the first thing to book a spot in your suitcase this summer.

14.

The Balenciaga grime sneakers

Coming hot on the chunky heels of Balenciaga’s wildly popular Triple-S and Track came the Runner, with fresh colourways revealed each season. The version seen here might be the wildest take yet, a technicolour dream shoe featuring contrasting panels of orange, pink, yellow, blue and green.

15.

The Elder Statesman luxe cardigan

While The Elder Statesman has never been shy when it comes to colour, recent seasons have seen the Los Angeles luxury cashmere specialist up the ante significantly with collections packed full of tie-dye, pastel and neon, to the point now that the brand and abundant use of colour are now practically synonymous. This lovely shawl-collar cardigan – a MR PORTER exclusive – is a case in point.

16.

The POLITE WORLDWIDE® multi-stone necklace

Jewellery is one of the simplest ways to add a little colour to your look, and POLITE WORLDWIDE®’s beaded necklaces are about as easy and approachable as it gets. Don’t let the handmade, folksy charm fool you, though: with a sterling silver chain and beads of agate, tiger’s eye, opal and amethyst they’re impressive pieces of work.

17.

The SAINT LAURENT floral shirt

Hello tropical perfection. SAINT LAURENT’s trippy take on the aloha shirt is eye-popping, yet extremely cool. Fiery oranges and yellows and sapphire blues stand out on a black background making it a classic for the city as well as holidays. Wear with your skinniest jeans – or jorts, if you dare.

18.

The punchy Isabel Marant baggies

Isabel Marant’s shorts come with all the classic touches: an elasticated waistband, wide legs, and candy-bright prints. Retro and modern, this is a piece fit for a Parisian surfer, if such a thing exists. If not, they’re perfect for parading in very hot climes as they will help you remain mercifully cool when the party heats up.

19.

The discrete éliou bead bracelet

Some of us don’t wear our hearts on our sleeve, rather we prefer them around our wrists. Enter this pearl, glass, and enamel bead bracelet from éliou. It’s quiet, but not too quiet and will look excellent stacked alongside a watch of your choosing. Or a – just throwing this out there – a festival wristband.

20.

The ERL sunset sweater

This knit from ERL is extremely reminiscent of a sunset – or a sunrise, depending on how you look at it, or what time you’re up. If you’re partying through the night for Pride, this might just be the piece you need to keep to hand when the sun goes down.
