THE JOURNAL

The items you need to ease the transition from sofa to office.
The holidays are officially over. And now you’re staring down the barrel (or, to be more accurate, an exponentially-increasing email inbox and the soon-to-expire salvation of an out-of-office autoreply) of getting back to work. We’re taking this moment to refresh your memory because even a few members of the MR PORTER team seem to have forgotten that it’s back business as usual. We have, for example, just had to swat away a spirited colleague dolling out festive treats and remind them that, alas, it is no longer Christmas. But there is a merrier side to the bleak beginnings of January. The dawn of a new year brings a host of shiny, new office-appropriate pieces on site and, hopefully, they’ll make the return to your desk a bit easier.
Lardini Blazer
If you’re anything like us, your regular sleeping attire has become something of a second skin during these past few weeks. Sadly, it’s still unacceptable to wear pyjamas (and, for those whose workplaces enforce a strict dress code, anything resembling comfortable clothing) to the office. When you absolutely must shed your sleepwear, replace it with Lardini’s versatile knitted blazer; it’s as comfortable as a cardigan but still sharp enough to don in the boardroom.
Santoni Shoes
In your younger years, shopping for shoes likely signalled – and perhaps sparked dread – the start of another academic year. Buying smart footwear still provokes a similar nostalgia in us, but when they’re as nice as these Santoni monk-strap shoes, any formerly felt fear is unseated by excitement. They may be smart, but they’re also uncommonly comfortable from the get-go, crafted as they are by some of the most skilled hands in Europe from gently burnished tobacco-toned leather with neat apron-stitched uppers.
Corgi Socks
The singularity of the traditional fashion calendar often means we see a lot of lightweight, summery clothes trotted out when it’s not exactly practical to wear them. The benefit of such a system, however, is that it allows us to plan. Or, at least fantasise. If you’re anything like us you’ll already be mentally packing for when you whisk yourselves away to palm tree-lined streets in sunnier climes at the first sign of sun. To curb our enthusiasm until then, we’ll settle for livening up our workaday wardrobe with these palm tree-patterned socks from Corgi.
