THE JOURNAL

Can what you wear to the office increase your chances of getting a promotion? Well, it certainly can’t hurt. Especially if the brand you’re looking to to elevate your everyday work wardrobe is The Row. Named as a nod to Savile Row, the Mayfair tailoring mecca that has for centuries defined British suiting, The Row actually began as a quest to construct the perfect T-shirt. The label’s collection, then, captures an awareness of the very best in formal office attire and what goes into making it – the rich traditions, knowledge and expertise and attention to detail. But it also grasps that, in this age of loosened dress codes, we don’t all wear a shirt and tie to the workplace.
We’d say what stands out about any piece by The Row is the exceptional fabrics and construction. What really stands out, however, is that no item actually stands out at all. Instead of a logo, The Row relies on its minimalist styling as almost de facto branding, making it the ultimate if-you-know-you-know flex. It ensures that those in the C-suite take notice.
Does that mean that articles from The Row lack personality? Far from it, they just don’t need to shout over the partitions to get heard – they already have your boss’ boss’ attention, after all. And since that every item in the collection comes with its own given name, you could even call the collection your friends in high places. Let’s get acquainted.
01. The double-breasted cashmere blazer

Wilson Double-Breasted Cashmere Blazer coming soon
Not to be confused with the volleyball that Mr Tom Hanks anthropomorphises in the 2000 survival drama Cast Away, this Wilson – we’re on first-name terms – will nonetheless have your back. And front. Think of this double-breasted blazer as a suit of armour, only generously padded and fashioned from soft cashmere. Perhaps don’t go around talking to it, though. At least not in public.
02. The wide-leg pleated trousers

If you think the modern world is too hurried, talk to Berto about how things used to be. The relaxed shape of these trousers was inspired by vintage styles – and is only accentuated by the pleats along the waist.
03. The selvedge denim jacket

Mr Orson Welles knew a thing or two about lasting appeal – his cinematic debut Citizen Kane was listed by Sight & Sound as the best film ever made for 50 consecutive years. The namesake Orson denim jacket is also one to turn to season after season. The style is as timeless as it comes, while the hard-wearing selvedge denim will only get better with age.
04. The cashmere sweater

We don’t talk about Bruno? Perhaps we should. This cashmere sweater is your new best friend, but one that you’ll feel like you’ve known for ever. Knitted from a plush, soft cashmere, it will feel worn-in from the get-go, with raglan sleeves for a casual, sporty look.
05. The straight-leg selvedge jeans

We all know Ross, right? Dependable. Fits in anywhere. What a guy. The straight-leg finish is a classic for a reason, but this pair of jeans will go the extra mile as you do, moulding to your body with each wear.
06. The cashmere-blend bomber jacket

Craig Cashmere-Blend Bomber Jacket coming soon
Craig might have a military background, but this bomber jacket is equally at ease in an off-duty civilian setting. The Row has been spoiling us with its lavish cashmere. Even so, the silk lining deployed here is next level. And with its ribbed trim, Craig can, er, ride our tail anytime.
07. The ribbed merino rollneck

Robbie is the one to know once the weather turns. Rib-knitted from cosy merino wool, the rolled hem will give you a relaxed look even when you’re hard at work.
