As a brand founded on principles of elite high-performance sportswear suitable for sub-zero temperatures and the demands of professional athletes, it’s no wonder that Moncler prizes technical perfection and meticulous design even in its casualwear ranges.

Leaving the slopes far behind, the brand’s latest collection is designed with an understated and effortlessly cool urban sensibility, nevertheless keeping practicality at the fore. Every piece considers its purpose with a utilitarian clear head, playing with innovative fabrics, texture and detail in a refined palette dotted with flashes of colour. Alongside the boldly simplistic tonal choice, the use of the brand’s instantly recognisable logo, monogram printing and tricolour accents creates a cohesive aesthetic that lends a feeling of uniform to the collection.

The cleverly chosen range of materials are the perfect foil for modern city living. Think windproof super-light recycled nylon, breathable pique and armoured cotton to comfortable and durable stretch gabardine and wrinkle-resistant draping triacetate. These complementary layers offer a modular wardrobe that is perfect for every active man’s “slouch towards summer”, whether that includes hitting the trails or court, exploring the city or chilling at the beach, pool or in your private city oasis. Wherever you’re getting out to, Moncler’s taking you there comfortably and in style.

01. The stealth-mode uniform

Moncler says its slick black range is “inspired by the deep-sea abyss”, and the Octano jacket, with its pops of cobalt blue and white-out logo demonstrates this clearly. We all know black is the city dress code, but the lightweight shell material, waterproof zip pockets and a retractable hood mean this will hold its own on your outdoor pursuits, too – which is lucky, as that’s when the Trailgrip high-tops come into their own. Combining a fitted knit upper and chunky Vibram Megagrip soles, these are loaded with minuscule detailing, such as reflective pull tabs, logo-debossed moulded splash guards and tricolour webbing.

02. The everyday activewear

Here come those flashes of colour. This time showcasing the collection’s centre court references, a pair of vivid sky-blue swim shorts in quick-drying shell display their versatility as tennis or everyday attire. Especially when teamed with a sharp white cotton tee, classic grey marl zip-through with tricolour ribbon zip and fresh sneakers. The brand’s abstract rooster is a subtle wink to supreme quality on an otherwise restrained and ultra-casual fit.

03. The city essentials

It might be May, but those April showers can outstay their welcome. To protect you from the elements, Moncler has reimagined the hard-working windbreaker. Water-repellent and lightweight with a short, boxy fit, this is a super-wearable and useful investment in vivid green. We’ve styled it with a timeless cotton-piqué white polo shirt with grosgrain placket detail and a pair of trousers that are the perfect blend of comfort (elasticated waist and loose, relax fit) and style (crisp cotton-poplin and pressed creases). Finished with leather and suede sneakers, the tonal texture and flecked rubber soles add luxurious depth.

04. The pool to court set

Is it a terry tennis two-piece? Is it a laid-back beach fit? Or casual separates made into a matching set? How about all three? With a zigzagging all-over monogram print, this camp-collar cotton-poplin shirt and swim shorts don’t have to be worn together, but for a summer outfit that is cool in both meanings of the word, we suggest you do so. For cooler days, however, the bowling-inspired shirt will team perfectly with jeans or loose chinos – and for high-summer, the shorts will look the part while sipping a beer at the pool bar or swimming laps in the bay.

05. The clean, classic layers

There will for ever be power in the sharp combination of black and white. And when applied to casualwear – well, let’s just call it the metropolitan tuxedo? Here, versatile basics are combined to create clean and contemporary sporty layers. The Gales jacket in light windproof shell has a relaxed fit, front panel details and stand collar, and features the instantly recognisable tricolour logo badge. Paired with a variegated stripe monotone tee with metallic logo and the brand’s iconic low-top Trailgrip sneakers, it’s an unfussy, sleek city suit.
