Don’t let anyone fool you: being a best-dressed-list-worthy celebrity is exhausting business. For us mere mortals, clothing ourselves each morning is simply a case of flinging open the wardrobe doors and seeing where the wind takes us. Your average Hollywood actor, meanwhile, will undergo more fittings for the January awards season than most do in a lifetime. What we we’re trying to getting at here is that were any of our usual favourites to start losing steam right around November, after three consecutive quarters of peak sartorial performance, then frankly who could blame them? All the more reason, then, to lavish the praise on this month’s most noteworthy dressers.

Mr Dominic Fike

Who says black doesn’t have range? Dressed head-to-toe in SAINT LAURENT SS23, a frequent affair since starring in the brand’s campaign earlier this year, singer and Euphoria star Mr Dominic Fike resolutely proved otherwise. Here, he can be seen pulling off a sophisticated Matrix-esque get-up that we’re sure you’ll agree is anything but monotonous. In fact, we’d go so far as to say the bold masculinity of that double-breasted leather trench, softened by delicateness of that sheer pussybow blouse is a feat of juxtaposing genius.

Mr Paul Mescal

At 26, Mr Paul Mescal makes for a better dad than most men with a decade or two on him. We of course refer to his performance in Aftersun, which, if there is any justice in this world (and that is increasingly up for debate), should clean up come award season. He dresses the part, too, appearing at a screening of the film in a tidy double-breasted Gucci jacket that was big on checks, but short of crop. And that’s before we get to the brown tone, mirrored in his trousers. Speaking of perfect matches, those look like Gucci’s take on a classic dad sneaker, the adidas Gazelle, on his feet. OK, so he’s not a father IRL, as far as we know, but you can call him “Pops”. If just for the glints of white in his T-shirt, socks and laces, which tie everything together.

Mr Eddie Redmayne

In recent months, Mr Eddie Redmayne has engaged the services of the mega-stylist Mr Harry Lambert, best known as the man behind the wardrobe of Mr Harry Styles. As a result, Redmayne’s style has steadily been shifting in a bolder direction, expressed primarily through the medium of jazzy knitwear. This “Brideshead-goes-to-the-disco” Lurex sweater vest is a case in point. Wisely, he’s relaxed everything else: the turned-up shirt cuffs, open top button and cropped trousers give the whole look a suitably unstudied, “slung on” look.

Mr Seth Rogen

Saying that Mr Seth Rogen has a lot on his plate is something of an understatement. In fact, given his interest in pottery, he probably made the plate, too. The 39-year-old actor and comedian has spent the last few months promoting The Fabelmans (Mr Steven Spielberg’s latest directorial work) and set to star in Dumb Money, a movie that follows the GameStop stock chaos. He’s writing and directing a yet-untitled AppleTV+ comedy series and lending his voice to multiple animated characters, including Invincible’s Allen the Alien. And somehow, on top of all that, he still manages delivers on the style front, making a strong case for the return of the bleached buzzcut this summer and regularly showing off his colour-coordination prowess. This green Paul Smith suit, paired with a brick-hued bow collar shirt, is merely a case in point.

Mr Sebastian Croft

Dressing to stand out at a black-tie event is a high-wire act, not least because the boundaries of how far you can push it are so subjective. One man’s “refreshingly innovative” is another’s “cringe-inducingly gauche”. But, for our money, the Heartstopper actor Mr Sebastian Croft toes the line well here. By leaning into the campy humour of his abbreviated suit via the pulled-up white socks, he’s simultaneously acknowledging the codes of the event and saying, “Hey, I’m 20 years old, and I’m a Netflix sensation. I can have some fun here”.

Mr Mason Mount

There are those that say that footballers should stick to football. (Often the very same people who bask in reflected glory when their national team does well.) But we say just go out there and enjoy yourselves. So, thankfully England and Chelsea attacker Mr Mason Mount chose not to stay in his lane and ditched the training-ground tracksuit for an oversized Burberry two-piece for the London premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. And a crisp white T-shirt to balance the brown is a good touch for a big suit. The midfielder gave it 110 per cent, and proved that he does, in fact, turn up for the big events.

Mr Andrew Garfield

Nothing new to see here, really – just Mr Andrew Garfield scoring yet another style win on the red carpet in 2022. Before this year, who’d have guessed that the famously low-key British actor had such… Big Fit Energy? So big, in fact, that for this month’s list we were pretty close to picking another of his stellar outfits: an understated black tux, worn to the GQ MOTY Awards, that fit so impeccably it surely can only have been a custom job. However, this equally flattering navy-blue and pastel-yellow pairing (courtesy of Gucci) pipped it purely for the sheer confidence of that colour combo.
