Three Ways To Get A Head Start On AW17

Words by Mr Adam Welch

14 July 2017

Stock up your wardrobe for the winter months with this jacket, coat and cardigan.

We’re quite aware that this is the blazing peak of summer, and that many of our readers will be currently doing their best to avoid fainting from heat exhaustion on the daily commute. Unfortunately, the reality is that the mighty gods that decree the vicissitudes of fashion care nothing for your mortal sufferings, nor your earthbound atmospheric conditions. Indeed, they have decreed that now – July – is the time to start launching new product for the autumn/winter seasons. So what can we do but dive in? Of course, if you look at the whole thing in a slightly more positive light, this early arrival of new-season product will allow you to stay ahead of the pack in terms of style as we enter the latter half of 2017. Scroll down for our guide to three brands that are particularly keen to help you do so.

The seasons may come and go, but Californian brand AMIRI’s mission remains steadfast: to offer up the definitive, most astonishingly high-quality wardrobe for fans of the LA rocker look. At a pinch, this bouclé leopard-print cardigan could be worn in summer – if you’re staying up to the small hours of the morning, after all, it can get somewhat chilly. But it will certainly see you through winter – and liven it up at that. Wear it with a pair of the brand’s trademark skinny jeans, which are hand-distressed in its Downtown LA workshop.

As we may have suggested in bygone years, your winter wardrobe starts with a coat. And Valentino – with its half Sherlock Holmes, half Mr Jamie Reid show – was one of the most impressive producers of said garment in Milan this June. The above example was featured on the runway, and with its graphic check pattern, offers a considered upgrade from your typical black or grey varieties. Wear it (when the time is right) with one of the collection’s other standout pieces – this decidedly Mr Johnny Rotten-esque mohair sweater.

Renowned for its iconic down jackets, Italian brand Moncler uses its Gamme Bleu line to explore its more stylish side, with the help of the maverick menswear designer Mr Thom Browne. This neat overshirt, with its shiny metal buttons and a graphic pocket stripe, is a prime example of what a happy marriage the collaboration is, and is not only a great piece for winter, but an easy thing to slip on and off in the transitional months leading up to it. Wear it with a pair of Moncler Gamme Bleu’s pleasingly sturdy felt trousers when the wind really does start to bite.
