THE JOURNAL

The cheery knitwear to turn to as the night draw in.
Recently, we explained how you might incorporate the trend for graphic knitwear into your wardrobe. Fun: yes. Tricky to pull off: perhaps. Although we (hopefully) unpicked things to make wearing it a little easier, it’s sometimes nice to pull on an item that requires less thought. Much like these sweaters we have selected from today’s new arrivals. Bright and cheerful, and crafted in some of the softest materials known to man – this is knitwear that will lighten your mood on the darkest autumn day. All you need to worry about is ensuring the rest of your outfit isn’t battling for attention. Thankfully, we’ve made some styling suggestions below.
TICKLED PINK
Despite the resurgence of this shade in the form of millennial pink, this hue is certainly not for everyone. After all, there is nothing subtle about pink, and if you have a certain complexion – fair skin, rosy cheeks – it may not agree with you for more practical reasons. However, worn correctly, a bit of pink can brighten up an autumn day without making you centre of attention. We like this sweater by Eidos because it is made from a merino wool-blend. Cosy – yes. But, more importantly, it also has the effect of breaking up all that pink so it is not such a shocking block of colour. To protect the wool and cover up, you might want to carry a lightweight shell jacket. We like this one by Theory.
BOYS IN BLUE
From bright pink to powder blue, this sweater, also new on site today, is no shrinking violet. It’s certainly a little bit of a departure from the shades of blue – navy, for example – we’re most comfortable with. However, made with heavy four-ply cashmere, it will certainly keep you warm when the mercury plummets. What’s more, the ribbing is a nice touch for an extra bit of tactility and cosiness. Again, be wary of what you wear this with. Subtlety is your friend. A pair of black jeans, therefore, should ensure your sweater, and nothing else, shines brightly.
DOWN TO EARTH
In a more neutral, earthy shade – this sweater by Amsterdam brand Salle Privée is a little quieter than our two friends above, but no less cheering. That could be down to the light brown shade. Or the comforting Shetland wool it is made from. Brand founder Mr Patrick Munsters prefers quality over quantity in his approach to clothing, so you can be sure this will stand the test of time. If you’re wearing this on an autumn day, wear some sturdy shoes on your feet fit for kicking up the leaves – like these brogues by J.M. Weston.
