Up your shoe game with some new-season kicks, as selected by the style editor at Complex.

The sneakers game is more inclusive than ever, with options ranging from classic favourites, such as the adidas Ultraboost and Nike Air Max 95, to unconventional high-end entries such as the Balenciaga Triple S and Gucci Flashtrek. With so many heavy hitters to choose from, updating your rotation may prove a dizzying task. To make life a little easier, here are five sneakers available at MR PORTER that are sure to re-energise your footwear selection.

When adidas dipped into its archives to retrieve the Continental 80, it demonstrated the strength of its classics. With a design parallel to the popular Yeezy Powerphase, the easy-wearing low-top offers the perfect alternative for those avoiding the inflation of secondary markets. Despite being void of any embellishments or complicated tech, the traditional shape and full leather construction offer the perfect finisher to daily styling.

From its inception, Common Projects has been synonymous with minimalistic design and classic shapes delivered in high-quality fabrics. The brand quickly established itself during a time when there was a greater disconnect between traditional sports shoes and high-end sneakers by providing a harmonious balance. The Track Vintage is a perfect example of this middle ground. Its shape is akin to Nike Air Max 1 and has been elevated with a rich nubuck and mesh mix. An earthy combination of neutral tones means they can be easily dressed up or down.

Within the world of sneakers, there are several silhouettes that have achieved iconic status – the Air Jordan IV, the Puma Suede Classic, adidas Stan Smith and the Air Max 95, to name a few. Finding ways to push the boundaries and make silhouettes that many would consider perfect even better is no easy task, yet Hender Scheme has achieved it with impeccable finesse. The MIP-19 borrows the shape of Converse’s Chuck Taylor All-Star Classic and reconstructs it with blush vegetable-tanned leather, putting the focus on quality materials and craftsmanship. A definitive statement piece by way of fabrication, the MIP-19 will morph through natural use, making each pair individual to the wearer.

In recent years, Nike has demonstrated an affinity for its early 1990s models, which has resulted in a steady stream of re-issues with a close focus on retro styling. Slightly less well known than some of its Air Max counterparts, having spent some time on ice, the Air Max2 Light was welcomed back with open arms by fans. The re-release fully embraces its original design DNA with exaggerated light mesh and faux leather panelling and sports a true 1990s white and blue colourway. With spring on the horizon, the Air Max2 Light is the ideal transitional sneaker.

In late 2018, Nike welcomed its experimentation-driven ISPA (Improvise, Scavenge, Protect, Adapt) line into the fray with a special-projects-led range that puts the focus on the wearer’s interaction with urban environments. Its first shoe, the React Runner Mid WR ISPA, was built from the ground up on the ultra-popular React Element 87 sole and features taped seams for a water-resistant upper. With design features that mirror the needs of the daily commute and inner-city life, this release delivers on comfort with no sacrifice on style. It goes without saying that your footwear rotation can never have too many black options, which puts this iteration of the React Runner Mid WR ISPA one step ahead.
