The best barbers to keep your locks locked down, wherever you’re headed.
Right up there with missed connections and mislaid passports, dealing with an unfortunate haircut is one of the things a man could really do without when travelling. But if you know exactly where to go for a trim, staying well-groomed when you’re on the go needn’t be a bother. Which is why, to save you countless hours of Googling, we’ve rounded up some of the world’s sharpest (and most reliable) barbers. Whether you’re on business in Milan or sojourning in Sydney, these are the trusty tonsorial touchpoints that won’t put you on a waiting list, or leave you reaching for your cap.

Joe & Co
London
A welcome antidote to London’s swathe of faux-old school barbershops, Joe & Co swaps tired brown leather aprons and questionable moustaches for a modern interior and unfussy, yet invariably excellent service. Relax into a Japanese-style barber chair at this Soho pit stop and rest assured you’re in good hands: founder Mr Joe Mills has styled the locks of the likes of Messrs Ben Affleck, Jamie Dornan and Taron Egerton.

Tonsor Club
Milan
Nestled in Milan’s bohemian Brera district, Tonsor Club raises the humble practice of hairdressing to a bona fide art. Here, surrounded by an interior that strikes a balance between time-honoured tradition and ultra-modern design, Messrs Stefano Colì and Mauro Bellini offer a selection of classic Italian barbiere services, from cut-throat shaves to invigorating scalp massages, at a snip.
Via Palermo 15, 20121 Milano

Nomad Barber
Berlin
The brainchild of YouTuber Mr Miguel Gutierrez AKA the Nomad Barber, this low-key Kreuzberg barbershop is where Gutierrez serves up the best of the techniques he learned during a year spent documenting barbering traditions from Istanbul to India. Among them, a hot towel shave using Arko soap, a citrus-scented Turkish grooming staple first unveiled in 1957 and just as bracingly refreshing today.
Schönleinstrasse 4, 10967 Berlin nomadbarber.com

Blind Barber
New York
If the name doesn’t fill you with confidence at first, fret not: this Big Apple barbershop is named not for any visually impaired barbers on its team, but for the speakeasy bar that lies behind its front room. A nod to Prohibition-era dual enterprises, the East Village’s Blind Barber is the perfect place to pitch up for a fine cut, and a restorative cocktail. Martini, anyone?

Baxter Finley
LA
For fans of Baxter of California products, this West Hollywood fixture is not to be missed. Taking its name from the all-American grooming line’s founder, Baxter Finley is part-barbershop, part-brand emporium, and – with its refined mix of wooden display cases, custom marble back bars and antique chairs – the most stylish place in which to put its award-winning range to the test.
515 N La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90048

Hair House by Adam Chan
Hong Kong
Inspired by traditional Shanghai barbershops, where services extend beyond cuts and shaves to massage and nail-clipping, Mr Adam Chan’s Hair House offers a top-notch, no-nonsense grooming experience in an environment less ostentatious than Hong Kong’s super-luxury salons. Looking for a slick quiff, pompadour or fade? Hotfoot it to one of two of their rockabilly-inspired locations on either side of the city.
2/F 20 D’Aguilar Street, Central G/F 28 Sau Wa Fong, Admiralty

Cleveland’s
Sydney
Hair isn’t the only thing laid waste to in barbershops. Which is why sustainable Sydney café-salon Cleveland’s recycles, reuses and repurposes up to 96 per cent of its refuse, from coffee cups to colour tubes. Thankfully, the team’s cutting skills are just as sharp as their conscience, so whether you’re in the market for a trim, colour or shave, this environmentally-conscious outfit promises a world-class snip that will do its part to save the planet, too.
